Will MPC Software updates be available?
Yes. Software updates will be made available. The MPC Software will prompt you when updates are available. This pop-up prompt will tell you what version is available, and what version you currently have installed. You can also manually check for updates. On OSX, select the menu titled “MPC”, and select “Check For Updates…”. On Windows, select the menu titled, “Help”, and select “Check For Updates…”.
What formats is the MPC Software available in?
The MPC Software is available in Standalone and VST formats.
Does the MPC Renaissance work as a standalone sequencer?
No. The MPC Renaissance is a USB MIDI controller and audio interface for your computer, and is designed to work seamlessly with the included MPC software.
Where can I drop samples from?
Samples can be dropped into the MPC Software from the MPC Software, files on disk, of other programs.
How do I turn pad lights off?
The pads will light up different colors, depending on how hard you play them (ranging from yellow at a low velocity to red at the highest velocity). To disable (or re-enable) these lights, on the MPC Renaissance, press PAD ASSIGN then F6 (Velo Col).
Can I nudge beats?
Yes. All selected beats can be nudged. This is performed with a computer keyboard command. On OSX, hold Command and press left or right. On Windows, hold CNTL and press left and right. This will shift notes with relation to the currently selected TIME CORRECT value.
Is there a list of keyboard commands?
Yes. A list of keyboard commands is located on page 110 of the MPC Reference Manual
Can effect presets be saved?
Effect presets are saved on a project basis.
Will MPC Software be compatible with Rewire?
No. Currently Rewire is not supported.
How can I draw smooth automation?
Change the global Time Correct value to “Off”
How many computers can I authorize the MPC Software on?
The MPC Software can be authorized on 4 computers.
Are 32 and 64-bit versions of the MPC Software available?
Currently, MPC Software is 32-bit, and will function in 32-bit applications and operating systems.
Can I load MPC Samples, Programs, Sequences, and Songs?
Yes. File formats through the history of the MPC series can be loaded into the MPC Software. Files from the MPC60 to the MPC5000 will be compatible.
Will the MPC Renaissance burn CD’s?
The MPC Renaissance will not have a CD disk drive. The MPC software will export an Audio Mixdown in WAV, AIFF, and MP3 formats, which can be burned to a CD from your computer’s disk drive.
Can the MPC Software load instrument and Effect Plugins?
Yes. The MPC Software can load VST and AU instrument and effect plugins.
What Does the Vintage Mode button do?
Vintage Modes allow you can to choose an emulation of sonic qualities, for example, the MPC3000 or MPC60, or of course no emulation (None).
Can I use the MPC Renaissance and Studio with other programs?
Both the MPC Renaissance and Studio were designed to be controllers for the MPC Software. That said, you can use them in other programs but you will have to manually map it out in the other programs. Akai Pro will not be issuing any MIDI control templates for other DAWs and programs. If you do manually map things, a DAW with the learn feature in MIDI mapping mode will be easier to map than one without. You cannot change the MIDI note numbers and CC numbers that your MPC Hardware is assigned to.
Does the sample edit and chop window support snap-to-zero-cross editing?
Yes it does. This feature is enabled by default, and can be disabled in the MPC software page titled, “Sample Edit”.
Will I be able to use the MPC Software without the hardware connected?
No. The MPC Software’s functions are directly connected to the hardware. MPC hardware must be connected.
There are lots of new features in the MPC Hardware and Software, right?
Definitely! I’ll give you details on few of the new features that will be found in the MPC Hardware and Software. “Half Level” – like “Full Level” with a 127 velocity output. “Half Level” will allow a medium velocity output of 64. “Latch” – when activated this feature will permanently turn on “Note Repeat”, so that the Note Repeat button does not need to be held down. Q-Link Trigger – Holding this button, and touching one of the Q-Link knobs will make the parameter’s value jump to minimum and maximum values. These are just a few of the new features available. Akai Pro is excited for you to discover all the new features.

After much delay, MPC Software 1.4 is now live and available to download either from the Akaipro MPC web site or from within your current MPC Software installation. There's a huge number of new features - new envelopes, 64 bit, improved hardware control and a whole bunch of little improvements such as autosave, cursor/wheel control of program parameters, UNDO history, and countless bug fixes and other tweaks.
To configure Cubase for transport control from the MPC Renaissance hardware:
1. Download the "AKAI MPC Renaissance.xml" file from the support page to the computer where the MPC Software and Cubase are installed.
2. Launch Cubase and open the Device Setup Menu
3. Click the + button in the top left corner and select "Generic Remote"
4. Click the Import Button and select the file "AKAI MPC Renaissance.xml"
5. Set the MIDI Input to "MPC Public"
6. After loading the MPC Software as a plugin inside Cubase, go to the MPC Software Preferences panel and select "Plugin" as your Hardware Transport Control option.
7. You can now use your MPC Renaissance transport buttons to control Cubase transport. The MPC Software as a plugin will sync automatically.
