I recently contacted Gabriel as i saw him on facebook doing maschine tutorials and me being a Tutor of maschine myself , wanted to know more about his company and what they do. Gabriel offered to do a Interview of me and the VIP SOUNDLAB and I agreed. You can check that interview HERE. Below are some of the questions I asked him, and his responses:
What were some of the challenges that you faced when you started Drums and Beats
and what do you specialize in?
" When I first started Drums and Beats, my initial doubt was that there were hundreds of other Maschine experts posting their tutorial videos on youtube. Why would they want more of the same thing? I realized that I'm a unique person with unique talents and have something valuable to offer. It's not going to be the same as everybody else's websites. In fact, I think people will enjoy
it when they give this community a chance and when I start adding some unique features - so stay tuned! I specialize in 8+
years of professional live drum set experience, so when it comes down to creating beats on the Maschine, it's very easy and
intuitive for me. I see a need for Maschine users especially, to learn good rhythm skills so they can have the freedom to create
whatever groove they want. Just using pre-made loops and patterns just doesn't cut it anymore - you need to set yourself apart
with your unique rhythm and style. "
When did you start making music and doing Maschine tutorials?
" I started making music when I was 14. That's when I started taking drum lessons and played around on the computer with synthesizers and DAWs. Many years later, I discovered Native Instruments' products and was blown away at the quality and intuitiveness of their software and hardware. I bought the Maschine Mikro as soon as it came out and it was a game-changer for the way I make music and get my ideas down on the computer. I started doing Maschine tutorials beginning July 2013 because I
wanted to share my knowledge with the community. Connecting with other likeminded musicians really gives me the drive to
contribute these tutorials."
How do you feel about the music industry today?
" I think that music in general, especially on the radio, has degraded. I hear a lot of shallow and superfluous messages in today's music and it's sad to see music being used this way. Music is powerful and not too many musicians understand this completely. If you create music to share a deep message with others and to change their lives in a positive way, instead of commercializing it,then I think you're creating it for the right purpose."
Where do you see Drum and Beats in say two years?
" It's hard to say. A lot can change in two years, let alone two months. My plan is to create a rhythm training course for Maschine users and then expand into creating electronic drum lesson tutorials. I also plan to add several unique features including membership options, ask the drummer, Maschine Kits, live performance techniques with e-drums and maschine, and eventually branch out into ways electronic music producers can market themselves and their businesses effectively, so they can have more time to focus on their music and not on making a living."
What is your favorite drum machine the MPC or Maschine?
" To be honest, I've never used the MPC. From what I've experienced with the Maschine so far, I love the seamless integration of the hardware and software and how quickly you can get your ideas formed into a song. I would love to try out different hardware like the MPC sometime."
When it comes to mixing what is your favorite go to plugin for compression?
"For now I've just been using the built-in compression module in Maschine since it comes integrated with it, however, I'm aware it's probably not the best. If my needs require something more powerful, I will source out a professional standalone compression plugin."
Tell us about your new E-book and what is it ?
"My new e-book "5 Opportunities for Electronic Music Producers and Maschine Users to Make Money Online" shows how any electronic musician or maschine user can monetize their skills. I go into 5 different streams: Freelancing, Selling Your Songs, Selling Your Loops and Samples as Stock, Using Social Media to Find Music Needs, and Using Free Classifieds to Sell Your Services. You can download it for free on my website."
Where does Gabriel get his Inspiration from ?
"For me, creating music is a way to express myself emotionally and spiritually. Sometimes I create music to destress, other times because I want to communicate a message, and other times it's because I want to express my emotions. I get my inspiration from my life experiences, life dreams, and deep emotions."
If someone were to ask you what is the number one reason for your success in business what would it be?
"I would say 3 things: Persistence, Belief in Myself, and Giving True Value to Others. Persistence to keep on going when you are not inspired or when life throws you challenges. Belief in myself when doubts start attacking my intentions, and to keep on going. Finally, giving true value to others. You can't fake it - when it comes from the heart, you know you've created some real value. Thanks Dro for this interview opportunity and for connecting with me. I wish you the best of success for the
VIP SOUNDLAB ! "
